Origin of MACRAO
The Montana Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers was created in 1962. MACRAO held its first meetings on May 10-11, 1962 at the campus of Eastern Montana College of Education, now MSU-Billings. Martha Hawksworth, Registrar of Montana State College, now MSU-Bozeman, was the first president of the association.
At that meeting Leo Smith, Registrar of Montana State University, now University of Montana-Missoula, proposed extending the association membership to include Montana's junior and private colleges. Since that date, all institutions of higher education, public and private, in the state have been members of MACRAO.
