History of MACRAO
The Montana Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions officers was created in 1962. MACRAO held its first meetings on May 10-11, 1962 at the campus of Eastern Montana College of Education (now MSU-Billings). Martha Hawksworth, Registrar of Montana State College (now MSU-Bozeman), was the first president of the association.
At that meeting Leo Smith, Registrar of Montana State University (now UM-Missoula), proposed extending the association membership to include Montana's junior and private colleges. Since that date, all institutions of higher education in the state have been members of MACRAO.
